Canadian Heritage River

Currently, NSRBC staff are working to complete the required background study before Spring 2017.

Check back for updates!

We are excited to announce that we have received funding through Parks Canada’s Canadian Heritage Rivers Board Secretariat to conduct a study and eventually nominate the North Saskatchewan River for Heritage River status.

The study will create an inventory of the cultural and natural values of the river from the mid-western edge of the province, at Lloydminster, through the Battlefords and to Prince Albert. As the NSRBC we will be working closely with our Alberta partners (North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance) who are currently in the nomination process of the river on the Alberta side.

To conduct the background study we will be meeting with stakeholder groups along the river; this will include community members, municipal governments, First Nations and Metis communities, environmental and cultural organizations as well as businesses and tourism operators.
